Rev. Raymond Lee "Ted" Hoagland, Jr. Scholarship

Raymond Lee Hoagland, Jr. (Ted) was a preacher’s preacher, and he played a vital role in the ministry here at Christ United. A graduate of Murphy High School, Vanderbilt University and Boston School of Theology, Ted served churches in Mobile, Abbeville, Montgomery, and Milton, Florida and was a District Superintendent in both Dothan and Mobile.

Ted retired from active ministry in 1985, but came on board at Christ United from 1985 until 1993 as the Visitation Minister. He also led Sunday School, study groups and church-wide programs that grew from his love of poetry and other literature. Ted will always be remembered for his beautifully worded and meaningful prayers.

His passion was missions, and this love began in the 1970’s and continued until his death. He was part of the organization team at Christ United that sent medical/construction teams to Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Venezuela.

Long after his seminary days, Ted was always a source of encouragement and support to those studying for the ministry. Through personal letters and conversations, Ted pressed these young people to persevere in their studies and beyond.
